Local Artist Brian Zickafoose Awarded Arts & Culture Project Grant for Art Day in the Village
Wappingers Falls, NY – November 28, 2024 – Brian Zickafoose, a celebrated muralist and illustrator, has been awarded the Arts & Culture Project Grant (ACPG) for 2025. This prestigious grant will support Art Day in the Village 2025, an annual celebration of art and community in Wappingers Falls, NY.
Out of over 250 applicants, only 102 grants were awarded, and Zickafoose’s project was chosen to receive funding from the New York State Legislature, administered by Arts Mid-Hudson. This recognition highlights the significance of Zickafoose’s work in the arts community and his commitment to bringing people together through creative expression.
Art Day in the Village has become a beloved cultural tradition in the Hudson Valley, held in tandem with the Festival of the Arts Student Exhibition in Mesier Park. Together, these events create a dynamic weekend celebrating artistic talent at all levels, from emerging student artists to professional creators.
The grant builds on the success of “The Gift”, a mural created by Zickafoose and unveiled during Art Day in May 2024. Installed in collaboration with local officials and a business developer, the mural celebrates the spirit of community and artistic expression. During the unveiling ceremony, Wappinger Town Supervisor Joey Cavaccini presented Zickafoose with the Wappinger Proud Community Award, recognizing his contributions to the cultural landscape of Wappingers Falls.
As part of the 2025 event, two new large-scale art pieces by Zickafoose and fellow artist Perry Kroeger will be installed in Wappingers Falls, continuing the tradition of integrating public art into the heart of the village. These works, centered around the theme of “Community,” will be unveiled during the event as part of the celebration.
Now in its fourth year, Art Day in the Village has become a beloved tradition in the Hudson Valley. The event showcases local talent and artists from underserved communities, featuring murals, pop-up galleries, live art, and interactive activities. The event draws thousands of visitors each year, strengthening the sense of community and celebrating creativity in unexpected places throughout the village.
“I am incredibly honored to receive this grant and grateful for the opportunity to continue building Art Day in the Village,” said Zickafoose. “This event is about bringing people together, making art accessible to all, and celebrating the creative spirit that makes Wappingers Falls so special.”
Art Day in the Village 2025 will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2025, with a rain date of Sunday, May 18, 2025. The event is free and open to the public.
